Childcare

Programmes

Our programmes are designed to feel like a natural extension of home, where children can learn, explore and grow at their own pace. Through a balance of creativity, play and gentle structure, we support each child’s development while making sure their days are full of warmth, curiosity and plenty of fun.

Art

We love getting creative with little hands, from painting and messy play to proudly bringing home their latest masterpieces.

Music

Singing, instruments and plenty of dancing help build confidence, rhythm and lots of joyful moments together.

Movement

From soft play to outdoor adventures, we keep little bodies active while building coordination and confidence.

Language

Through stories, songs and everyday conversations, we gently support each child in finding their voice.

Mathematics

We introduce numbers and problem-solving through play, making learning feel natural and fun.

Outside Play

Our outdoor space is a favourite, where children explore, grow and enjoy everything from gardening to free play in the fresh air.

Soft Play Sessions

As part of our weekly routine, the children enjoy dedicated soft play sessions at the leisure centre every Tuesday and Thursday. These visits provide an exciting change of environment and give children the opportunity to climb, crawl, balance, explore and play in a safe, stimulating space.

Soft play is a fantastic way to support children's physical development, helping to build coordination, balance, strength and confidence through active play. It also encourages social interaction as children learn to share equipment, take turns, solve problems together and build friendships. Most importantly, it gives them the freedom to burn off energy, have fun and develop new skills through play, supporting their overall health, wellbeing and development.

Library Visits

Twice a week, our children visit the Marcus Garvey Library which again is conveniently located within the leisure centre, giving them regular opportunities to discover the joy of books and storytelling in a calm and inspiring environment.

These visits help to develop a lifelong love of reading while supporting early language, communication and literacy skills. Children enjoy choosing books that interest them, listening to stories, exploring new topics and learning how to care for and respect books. Visiting the library also encourages curiosity, imagination and independent decision-making, as children are free to browse, ask questions and explore at their own pace.

By making the library a regular part of our routine, we help children build confidence, expand their vocabulary and develop a positive relationship with reading that can stay with them for years to come.

Stay and Play

Throughout the year, we invite parents and carers into the nursery for our Stay and Play sessions, giving families the opportunity to spend time together in their child's learning environment. These special sessions allow children to proudly share their favourite activities, introduce their friends and show their parents what they enjoy during their day at nursery.

Whether we're celebrating Father's Day, Mother's Day or other seasonal events, Stay and Play sessions help strengthen the partnership between home and nursery. They give parents a chance to join in with activities, create lasting memories with their children and spend quality time together in a familiar setting.

The children always look forward to these visits and love having their families involved in their nursery experience.

Settling in

We recognise that each child, parent, and nursery relationship is unique, and we use our experience to support everyone in making that transition into nursery life as smooth as possible.

Settling in at Vangie’s Daycare

At Vangie’s Nursery, we know how important those first few days are not just for your child, but for you as a family. That’s why we offer two gentle settling-in sessions designed to help everyone feel comfortable, confident and ready for this new chapter together.

Your first session will be around two hours long and gives you the chance to stay with your child, meet their Key Person and share all the little details that make your child unique. Together, we’ll complete an “All About Me” booklet, covering their interests, favourite activities and anything important you’d like us to know. It’s a relaxed introduction where your child can explore, play and begin to feel at home.

The second session is a little longer (around three hours), allowing your child to spend more time settling into the environment, building relationships and joining in with daily activities, while you gradually step back. Throughout both sessions, we’ll keep you updated so you feel reassured every step of the way.

Strong Relationships – Your child's Key Person

We believe strong, trusting relationships are at the heart of everything we do. Each child at Vangie’s Nursery is supported by a dedicated Key Person who takes the time to really get to know both your child and your family. Your child’s Key Person will be there from the very beginning, helping them feel safe, understood and confident in their new surroundings. They will ensure your child’s individual needs are met each day, share important information with the wider team, and thoughtfully plan activities that support their development, helping them grow, learn and thrive at their own pace.

Nutrition

Food & Nutrition at Vangie’s Nursery

At Vangie’s Nursery, we understand how important food is not just for your child’s growth and development, but as a big part of family life too. We work closely with you to make sure mealtimes feel familiar, enjoyable and tailored to your child’s needs. Each day, we provide a range of delicious, balanced meals and snacks, thoughtfully planned to introduce new tastes while still including comforting favourites.

We love seeing children’s excitement as they explore different colours, textures and flavours, and it’s a real joy to support them as they build a positive relationship with food. Throughout the day, we make sure children stay well hydrated, with drinks always available and gentle reminders built into our routine.

Babies’ Nutrition

For our youngest children, we know feeding is deeply personal and part of your family rhythm. We work in partnership with you to follow your baby’s routine, whether that’s breastfeeding, formula feeding or a combination of both. Bottle feeds are given with care and comfort, just as they would be at home. As your baby begins their weaning journey, we support you by introducing new tastes and textures in a way that feels consistent and reassuring.

Toddlers’ Nutrition

At this stage, children are discovering what they like and becoming more confident with food. We gently encourage them to try new things while making sure there are always familiar options available. Mealtimes are relaxed and positive, with plenty of encouragement and time for children to explore at their own pace.

Pre-Schoolers’ Nutrition

Our pre-schoolers are full of energy, and we make sure their meals support their busy, active days. As their independence grows, we encourage them to serve themselves, make choices and listen to their own appetite, all with gentle guidance from our team. We also begin to introduce simple conversations about how food helps their bodies, helping to build healthy habits that last beyond nursery.

Dietary Requirements

At Vangie’s Nursery, we understand that every child has unique dietary needs, preferences and requirements. We take care to provide nutritious, balanced meals that cater to allergies, intolerances and cultural or family dietary choices, working closely with parents to ensure each child is safe, comfortable and well-nourished.
